MHX vs Batson Revelation

I was hoping to get some opinions on these two blanks. I am trying to decide between a Batson revelation and an MHX both in a 9’ 4wt. I have never built a Batson Rod so I wasn’t sure about quality. Thanks.

Sam,
Simply put - Build the revelation, and you will not be disappointed.

Good luck

I have built both and they are both fine blanks. The MHX, may be only slightly faster action. You cannot go wrong with either!

The last thing I would worry about with a Rainshadow blank is quality, it's always been in there.

They most likely come out of the same factory in China. This is not intended to talk them down because they are both good blanks made in the same place with good quality control in place, made to different specifications. I have not built on the 4 weights but I have on the 5 and 3 wts and I agree with Phil the MHX brand blanks are a bit faster. You should not have any problems with either and they both have great warranties and service if you need it..

Addressing the quality question. I've only built 9 rods to date, (none being fly rods) so I don't have a lot of experience to fall back on when it comes to multiple blanks from different manufacturers.

IMO Rainshadow is a much more quality blank in every single respect.

I would not say the Rainshadow is a higher quality blank then the MHXs. They are very similar to each other when it comes to quality, and both are great deals and make into very nice rods. When it comes to fly rods I prefer the MHX blanks because of their faster action. Nothing to do with quality, just fits my style better. Can not really go wrong with either.

Thanks for all the input. I went with the Rainshadow since I have never built one before.
