North Fork Blanks

Two months ago I ordered a North Fork blank and everything else to build a rod for a customer from Anglers Workshop. I was told it was two weeks back ordered. Two weeks go by and I call Anglers on the status. They told me, they should see it at the end of May. Here it’s the end of May and I called them. Anglers checked on the status. They don’t even know when they will see it. I cancelled my order. Has anyone else had problems with North Fork blanks.

James,
North Fork is a small shop in the scheme of things, they have just openned two new series of rods, and have gotten a bunch of orders I bet from this last sale, including the sale on their graphite grips, which they also make in shop. The Black Widow grips are hand laid up from woven pre-peg strips by only one lady. Things take time over there. I've gotten my steelhead/salmon blanks, but not my bass and saltwater blanks I ordered over a month ago, nor have I received my grips.

NFC has had plenty of time now to get it together as this discussion is nothing new , it appears they have not done whats necessary to get things moving along at a considerably faster pace and customers have every right to be extremely annoyed. Sure hiring and training additional help is an expense but the way things are continuing to go is not satisfactory and a change is needed . I have seen this type of thing happen before and in the overwhelming majority of cases the company makes employees work weekends or longer hours to get the back load completed.

Doesn't make employees happy but it's necessary .

I think Gary wants to make more money selling premade rods then sell blanks for us builders. We all know that when we build a custom rod for one person other people are going to see that rod creating business. I will keep selling other blanks.

At this point if I have a customer that wants a Northfork built. They order the blank so they the customer has to deal with their drama. I will do all I can to build customers rods on other companies products. It is up to the customer though and if they decide Northfork is what they want then they procure the blank and their grips if they want them and I’ll take it from there. Too many options out there to have to deal with such incompetent customer service.

I sure hope they get their service all together. There is not many made in the USA rod blank manufacturers and it sounds like they make a quality product.

I am not sure. He’s pictured on their web page. It would be nice to work with an American made blank.

Some builders are stuck with blanks they paid more for at wholesale prices than they were later sold for at retail.

Northfork is making blanks for the Big name rod companies. Now if you were Gary who would you take care of, big numbers order from rod companies or a onesie twosie for a custom builder?? It is just business.

No blank company makes blanks in batches of ones and twos. Typically when they set up to run a given model they build 50 or more at the same time. So if you happen to order a model they are out of stock on, they may not have it scheduled to run for a few weeks, or until they have sufficient orders for that model.
