12 wt fly rod

I'm building a 12 wt fly rod. I'm planning to use Pac Bay Mimma 4 as guides a 16mm stripper then a 12 and then single foot 7s the rest of the way or would I be better off with single footed 8s? Thanks Mike

For the very minor difference in weight, I might go ahead and use the 8's. These are very light guides to begin with, certainly lighter than snakes with the same line size opening.

A 12 wt. fly rod has about the same power as a medium power steelhead blank, more than enough strength in a single foot guide.

I suspect the greatest amount of guide damage occurs not while fishing but during transportation, storage, and rigging. Durability of guides and their attachment is likely more critical than weight, looks, or performance for a significant share of anglers and custom-rod buyers.

If you want more durability, you can always utilize the Minimas in their low frame casting version. Still very, very light.
