St. Croix Guide Configuration, Part 2

I looked at my records and the guide configuration I posted in the previous thread was for a St. Croix 9 ft., 6 wt.

I used 12, 6 & 2s to an oversized loop top. I have an extra set. Could I use the extra set for the 5 wt.? I ordered a SCII, SCIV, 2-piece kit from Mud Hole because it was the cheapest way for me to go. It has guides with it. Opinions, please.
Thanks in Advance

Certainly it will work, but you might shave a little weight by moving to smaller running guides. How much difference it'll make on the water is something only you an decide for yourself. Most snake guides aren't terribly offensive so get some #1's, tape them and compare against the same thing with the #2's.

It seems like the type of fly line being used and the expertise of the fly caster should have some bearing on the choice and spacing of fly rod guides.
