What do you think of this configuration. I used it before and just wonder if anything has changed. I plan to use it on a 2-piece rod.

How about: 12, 6, and size 2s to the tip? I'm going to get an oversized loop tip top. This set-up seemed to work well for me on some other builds. I'm thinking up locking reel seat and half wells handle.

It will work just fine. If you have them on hand, you might try 1's and a regular size tiptop, just to see if that set up works as well. It would be a tad lighter which might be noticeable on a 5-weight rod.

If what you are thinking has worked well for you before on a similar 5 weight then go for it.

Up-locking seat is good unless the blank is glass or a longer bamboo in which case a down-locking seat might help better balance the rod.

A 10 or 12 mm stripper will work.

A size 6 snake is a big snake. I'd think about a size 4 or 5.

I'm with Tom K on the size 2 snakes - one size too large.

Left to my own devices, I'd go 12mm stripper, a size 4 snake, a size 2 snake and the rest 1s to a standard size loop.

But again, if something has worked well in the past, maybe don't fix what is not broken.

For me Donald is spot on (I use the exact same configuration a lot).

I use the Snake Brand with a Fuji Stripper. Size 12, Snake 4, Snake 2 and then Snake 1's out to a standard loop.
