Can you wrap over existing finish. Neighbor wants a drop shot keeper added to a factory rod.

I've done exactly what your talking about a couple times. 800 sandpaper and alcohol to clean it up before wrapping and everything sticks and looks like new.

Never use a solvent before applying epoxy, just sand and tac, brush, or air blow the dust off then apply epoxy.

NO SOLVENT between sanding and coating, before sanding, you can, but not after.

One added caution, since epoxy is relatively soft, be very careful to wrap tightly so no moving of the thread after wrap is required, because it most likely won't move.

I have several Lew's rods simply because I love the action of each and every one I bought BUT I absolutely hate the hook keeper holes in bottom of the trigger. It puts the bait/hook down lower on the blank but also puts it on the bottom of the rod which causes them not to lay flat on the deck of my boat. So, they all now have a dropshot style hook keeper up top and in front of the reel seat. I lightly sanded the area and cleaned them up then wrapped them with the same color and style wraps on the guides. None have failed and all look like they were done at the factory!!
