it looks like raw carbon with no coating at all on the blank , it is light an feels good I just don't know how it will hold up over time , I am use to a paint of some type on a blank, after spending good money on a blank I just don't know ?? any input on it

It does not need any coating. In fact, in such cases, it is usually the coating, not the carbon fiber, than eventually wears.

Michael, I opted to attempt the static load test with the guide spacing I planned to use (after having already wrapped the stripper guides). Here is the picture of that, it is my first attempt at using the static load for checking guide placement. I had to use the manual focus and focus fringing to get the rod and line as the focal point. I have downsized this image as the file would have been very large. I hope this helps.

Alright I had to figure out how to upload a photo (it required a 2nd registration, instructions were in the sticky). Here is the picture of the rod taken today.
Herself held the rod while I snapped a few photo's. You can decide if the guide spacing I previously stated looks good for your build. I followed the instruction on this site under the library for how to perform the static load test.

Cheers.
