If they do not already have a coating, you will need to apply one. Some use the epoxy made for thread warps, however I find it a little too soft for this application as well as it will yellow considerably exposed to sunlight.

I use West Marine epoxy and Perma Gloss.

Either way will work, I sanded mine and coated with permagloss like Tom K.'s video shows.

Epoxy is comprised of solids, not solvents. It won't "eat" foam. The products that require "drops" are actually single part products (usually acrylic) that utilize a catalyst to speed the cure. You can use any good thread epoxy as a filler-sealer. That's the way I would go. I think I mentioned this at the start of the video.

Added weight, yes ..... but very minimal added weight. On a fly rod the added weight (minimal as it is) may be a detriment. On a spinning rod or casting rod, I'd consider it a positive as it adds weight behind the reel seat. Weight behind the reel seat helps to offset the weight of the rod blank and guides.

Weight, as long as it's not excessive, is not a bad thing if it serves a purpose. Of course the definition of the phrase "excessive weight" differs between builders. Somebuilders may think that adding 2 oz to the butt of a rod so the rod and reel combination has a certain balance point, is adding excessive weight. I wouldn't be one of those builders though.

.. ..Most times any weight behind the balance point [away from the tip] will help, [ not to much] I think ,
