which guides for a spiral wrap?

Hi guys I am going to build my first spiral wrapped rod, how do I pick which guides to use. I was thinking of getting this kit [www.mudhole.com] will this kit work?

I was also wondering how do I go about laying out the guides for starting the spiral? I know I will have to static test to place the rest of the guides. Thanks for the help.

Justin,
You didn't mention what kind of rod your building. Bass sized conventional reels, similar powered rod for the reel, be it bass, inshore, salmon/steelhead, etc. you'll be fine. Lots of info on various spiral wrap styles in the archives, it all come up if you use the search function.

Try the MicroWave casting guides for the spiral wrap... the higher ring locations make it much easier to set up.

I plan on using it for lindy rigs and bottom bouncers with spinners

Spencer I just found that there is a tab on the search function that lets go more than 30 days, I was wondering where all the information everyone was talking about with the search function. Now I have a lot more reading to do.

Rod maker magazine has a special edition cd on guides. It covers topics how to choose and place guide, it also covers spiral wraps. Great tool to have.

Over winter I completed two spiral wrapped bass casting rods for myself. I haven't done many casting rods so I chose the simple spiral method because it's so simple. ;)
Started with the Fuji KW10 (alternative to RV) at 19" from the low-profile reel face. From there I used two KBAG5 on the bottom and 5 KTAG5 runners on the bottom to the tip.
I static tested and adjusted until I had 8-10" between the KWAG and first 180 degree KBAG. I looked for where the line will want to touch the blank between those two under load and added a KTAG5.
Works fantastic in the yard so I'm looking forward to getting the ice off the lakes to give it a real world test.
