Gents, I picked up several unknown blanks from the Swampland Tackle bargain box at last week's fishing show in Houston. After looking, measuring, flexing and comparing to the known blanks that I have in my fleet, is it reasonable to believe that blanks that have the same specs (length, tip, butt OD, weight) and bend similarly under simple bending tests will generally have the same performance? When I say simple bending tests I mean holding them side by side, more at the tip end and compare their bending curve under their own weight. I know that the quality of the material will play a role as well. Any thing else that I should look for? I suspect its an MHX blank b/c the box had quite a few of these in it. But stuff like this is what makes this addiction fun as I look for more than what's on the label. What say ye keepers of rod building knowledge? Re: The Unknown Blanks

The frequency of the blank reveals rod speed, which is the primary component of "fee." (response and recovery). You could have two blanks with identical action, power, length, etc., and yet they would perform and feel completely different if their frequencies are different.

Interesting. How does CCS measurements play into response and recovery? Re: The Unknown Blanks

The frequency component - CCF.

The reason that other system, RDA, or whatever it was, never flew with me was it really told you very little compared to the CC system. Couldn't really see what the originator was coming from, read one of his early posts about the system, and it seemed to me he didn't like the numbers he got and thought if he just changed the values all would fine.
Seemed to me if you measure something in inches vs mm, Oz. vs Kg, or F° vs C° it still is what it is. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
