Guide spacing for 10ft 3# CTS Affinite X Nymph rod

HI all,

I'm about to build a Euro Nymph in rod on the Affinity X blank and am having trouble finding a guide spacing chart for this blank.
Has anyone used this blank for this application and if so what spacings did you use?

Cheers,
Todd

I'm currently building a 10' 3" 4 wt as a euro inspired rod. Are you using single foot guides like most factory euro nymph rods? You could use the Sage ESN guide spacing chart and it should work very well,
Guide spacing doesn't have to be exact to a specific blank and small spacing variances don't matter. Euro rods mostly have soft responsive tips and firmer mid/butt flex profiles with the stripping guide closer to the grip then general fly rods. If you compare available guide spacing data from several rod makers they are probably very similar.

John
I just built a 10'0" CTS rod on a #5 custom blank. But is has a similar fle profile as the Affinity-X.
Let me know if you want me to share it with you.

G'day John,

I'll probably use the single foot guides as it seems they are what is being used on the majority of the Euro style nymph rods (more sensitivity apparently). From what I have read on the various forums Sage uses H&H guides on the ESN so I'll probably run with them.

I like your idea of using the same spacing as the ESN. If nothing it'll give me a good place to start.
I had originally wanted to use the ESN blank, but couldn't find anyone who seems to stock the 2017 model... and besides, reviews of the CTS blank suggest it's a pretty darn good rod and I'd prefer to support a (reasonably) local manufacturer

Cheers,
Todd

G'day Herb,
I'd love to see the spacing you have used if you don't mind.

Cheers,
Todd

Todd,
from the installed tip-top ring:
4 1/4"
9 1/8
14 3/8
20 3/4
27 1/5
35 1/2
44 5/8
53 3/4
63 7/8
75"

Be advised that I like my stripper 4 - 5" further towards the tip than standard. So you may have to fudge the rear 3 guides.

Also - since you want this rod to maintain its inherent stiffness as much as possible I would recommend that you use the REC S/F Recoils instead of te stainless H&H

Todd,
I can provide spacing, if required.
I'll need the rod tip dia, the distance from rod tip to reel and the desired number of guides.
It's based on my spreadsheet and will update for the desired number of guides, based on effective rod length.

Thanks for that Herb, it's much appreciated.
How do the REC Recoils differ to the H&H?

Cheers,
Todd

Thanks Gene. Once I have the blank I might take you up on the offer.
What part of the reel do I measure to?

Todd
REC Recoils are made from a Nickle Titanium alloy. About half the weight as any chromed stainless guides
