spinning reel spool diameter

What is the diameter of the 2500 and 3000 series spinning reels? I assume the diameter is the same across manufacturers and this may be totally erroneous but I need a starting point.
I'm making spinning rods for my son and trying to set the guides per Tom Kirkmans 27 system but I don't know what to use for the diameter of the reels.

Thanks,
Jim

Depends what manufacturer , they're definitely not all the same and can vary a bit but generally between 45 and 55 mm , the Penn SSV 4500 is 49 mm . I don't have any reels in the 2500 size .

They're not the same. Sometimes even not the same within the same manufacturer's line of various spinning reel models.

Shimano Symetre 2500Fi 44.7mm, Wright & McGill 2500 42.5, that's all I got.

Thanks folks.
I guess that answers my question. So to add to the confusion I guess the size of the choker guide and the first guide is also dependent on the spool diameter?

Jim

Here's the spool sizes of the 2500 / 3000 reels that I have;
Diawa Regal 2500xi 47.54
Okuma Avenger AV30 41.60
Shimano Sahara 2500FB 43.04
Bass Pro Shops TPX30 51.88

I pretty much use an average of the above sizes when I don't have the reel available to measure. Most of my 27x guide strings start with a 20 or 25 high frame spin guide.

Choker guide has nothing to do with reel size, it is the first guide that is the size of all the rest of the tip guides past the reduction guide train. Chocker guide distance from the reel spool's edge is dependent on spool diameter however.

The diameter, coefficient of friction, and stiffness of a line also affect ideal guide size and spacing, at least on a spinning rod.

Thanks for all the input. I have since done my research and found the info I need to determine guide location and sizing. I was trying to build the rods without having the reels. I now see that in order to do it properly I have to have the reels.

Thanks again,
JIm

Jim,
I would just use a size 25, 10,8, and then runners to the tip. The size 25 should be a tall guide for line control and then go to the sv style guides for the next two guides and then down to the f style guides for the runners and tip top.
Set the first guide at 10 inches, the next one 9 inches up the rod, the 3rd at 7 inches up the rod and then space out the runners from there.

Tape on the guides at those locations, test cast and tweak guide positions as needed.

Good luck
