I'm trying my hand st wrapping and want to do a fish scale pattern. How far apart should I make the marks for the layout? I tried 3/4 inch and the scales are coming out huge. So I'm thinking 1/2 inch, but if anybody has experience with what looks nice let me know. It's not a thick blank. It's a Med light spinning rod. Re: Fish scale wrap question.

Thanks. Started over last night with 1/4inch spacing and it's looking good so far. It's my first time doing a butt wrap so we'll see how it goesz Re: Fish scale wrap question.

Layout your first cross using square spacing and just keep cutting it half until you get the size you want. Re: Fish scale wrap question.

When I do that type of wrap on a ML rod I use a 6-axis wrap (8-axis on M bass rods). So take the circumference at the center of the wrap and divide by 3 to get spacing. Taper Offset Spacing is helpful but I'm not going to explain that. If you do a search and Google you'll find lots of info on it. Books by Tom Kirkman, Dale Clemens, Billy Vivona and others explain it well. John Shear Chippewa Falls, WI Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
