Fish scale wrap question.

I'm trying my hand st wrapping and want to do a fish scale pattern. How far apart should I make the marks for the layout? I tried 3/4 inch and the scales are coming out huge. So I'm thinking 1/2 inch, but if anybody has experience with what looks nice let me know. It's not a thick blank. It's a Med light spinning rod.

Thanks. Started over last night with 1/4inch spacing and it's looking good so far. It's my first time doing a butt wrap so we'll see how it goesz

Layout your first cross using square spacing and just keep cutting it half until you get the size you want.

When I do that type of wrap on a ML rod I use a 6-axis wrap (8-axis on M bass rods). So take the circumference at the center of the wrap and divide by 3 to get spacing. Taper Offset Spacing is helpful but I'm not going to explain that. If you do a search and Google you'll find lots of info on it. Books by Tom Kirkman, Dale Clemens, Billy Vivona and others explain it well.
