Newbie here, question#1-is there a rule on how many wraps for the ferrule end of the blank v/s the rod usage, #2- should the male end be engaged when wrapping, the blank is a 9', 4pc, 7wt glass fly rod used for largemouth bass. Nick R. Re: ferrule wraps

There is no firm rule, some even omit them. Many use a formula of wrap length, equal to 1 1/2 times the ferrule diameter. No you do not need the male portion inserted during the wrap, however I find it easier to wrap with it in. Re: ferrule wraps

What Phil E wrote.
By making the wraps 1.5 or 2 times the female ferrules' diameters the wrap lengths' will proportion nicely. Stress tends too concentrate at the butt edge of the female ferrule, so the ferrule reinforcing wrap should be as close to the butt end as reasonably possible. Re: ferrule wraps

I make all of these wraps 3/4 of an inch long. Just habit. Re: ferrule wraps

Some, like the CTS blanks, need no wraps.
But some, like the Gatti (Italy) require 15mm wraps for warranty to be valid. I cracked a ferrule on a 10wt just from spining the unbuilt blank. Read, or ask, for the manufacturers policy. Herb U.S. Distrib. CTS Rod Blanks Re: ferrule wraps

As Herb mentions above, some blank manufacturers state that you do not need to use a ferrule wrap. My take on the subjects is........it is like insurance, maybe you won't need it, but, it's there just in case! Re: ferrule wraps

it sounds like Gatti has not yet learned how to make a ferrule.. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
