Fellow builders, I am having problems with my Forecast drying motor. It is in combo with a separate wrapping motor tied to an Alps chuck uggrade. The problem is the drying motor changes (direction) rotation for no reason. I have loosened the mounting screws, which seems to help. I also change the drive belt (O Ring). The multi drive pulley will not tighten securely to the shaft of drive motor. The combination of these issues has got me baffled. For the last 18 months everything has work perfect Any help or advice would help me greatly!!

A cheap synchronous AC motor will, by nature, start randomly in either direction. The simple explanantiom is which ever half of the current sine wave hits first will determine direction. If you want it to start in a particular direction, give it spin, by hand, in the desired direction, while flipping the switch.

Neither a loose motor mount nor a different belt will have any affect on starting direction.

Since the motor worked fine for you for 18 months, but now it is not working the way that you want; the motor is getting worn out.

These small timing motors by their nature will run in either direction. But, after time some of them will get to the point where they will randomly start switching directions on their own under load. Time for a new motor.

There are other motors on the market that will not switch direction like these motors. So, if you have a positive need to never switch the motor direction, then go to one of the capacitor start, or DC motors with a DC power supply.

However, if you pick up a new motor similar to what you currently have, you will get many more rods completed without worry.

Darrel, If this is happening while you are using the motor I would check for a small short or loose wire, a very small interruption of power will make the motor think it was shut off, then it would change direction. Hope you can solve your problem, Nick R.

Roger, I tend to agree with you. I have checked wires and all are intact and power supply is good as nothing has changed in my work shop that would effect power supply, But thanks to those who suggested I check. I will contact Batson on Monday to see if they can help me, other wise I have a huntin buddy who is an electrical guru

Notice that Mudhole has a $60 motor and a $20 motor.

The $60 motor will likely last 10 times longer than the $20 motor.

Guys, Problem solved!!! Made contact with Batson and they are sending me a new complete drive set up, BOTH dryer and wrap motors,No wires to mess with!! 3 screws off and 3 back on, that simple. If any of you experience a similar problem contact Batson right away and they will "Hook you up"
