Hi guys. I used Flex Coat color preserver with LS Supreme finish. I like to longer open time but had some darker coloring in my threads. I used a dark blue but had it go darker after applying the finish. The Flex Coat was applied heavy so I don't think it was dry. The CP was applied to makes sure any gap was full and filled in where the guide foot bent up. My conclusion is that the finish must have gotten under or too the threads. Fortunately my friend won't care but I do like to produce a nice "working" rod.
What do you guys think?? As always...thanks for your time!! Kevin Re: Thread color change

Kevin,
I really like to build all of my threads with no cp. I like the fact that the thread gets darker and more translucent. My clients like it as well. Be safe k Re: Thread color change

If the thread was wrapped on a dark colored blank, it may become a shade darker even with CP. Very dark areas or those that have become translucent, would be areas where the CP did not seal the thread.

Flex coat color preservative needs to be stirred before use. I've never had a problem with it with any rodbuilding thread I've used. I had a failure with it with a rayon sewing thread, but that really doesn't count as a problem IMO. It also is susceptible to being damaged by freezing, most likely to happen in winter shipping to northern states. I suspect your problem is that it was not stirred.
Building without CP makes a lot of sense for some colors, for example garnet ends up looking like a classy ripe black cherry color. But if one wants most of the bright colors, and predictable colors, CP is necessary. You can see approximately what your thread without CP will look like by doing a test wrap and wetting it with alcohol. Re: Thread color change
