Tough Weekend for Rods

Broke two of my own builds this past weekend. One was a Rainshadow Eternity ETES86MXF that broke in two places while I was casting a 0.5 oz swim bait. Both breaks on this one were right above the single foot guides about 2-3' down from the tip. I'd guess the stresses on the rod are different in the vicinity of the epoxied guides. Looks strange. I'd appreciate any thoughts on this regarding operator error during the build. The second casualty was a freak accident. While holding the rod tip w the rod and reel on the table, and without me knowing it, the rod rolled off and the rear grip hit the ground. The end snapped off about 1 1/2" from the tip. This one was an MHX EPS 82MF. Not sure any rod tip is meant to survive that type of bend with the full weight of the reel involved. I'm going to check on the warranty and hope for the best. If there's an upside to this, I'll probably be spending more time in the rod shack the next few weeks. Not a bad place to be. Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

Larry,
You might check with Batson on the Eternity Blank.

There have been some reported manufacturing issues with the Eternity blank. Thus the reason for Batson to change its manufacturing of that blank. Give them a call and see what they say.

Good luck

I had issues with 2 Immortal blanks and Batson was very willing to make things right. They stood behind their product.

Iv'e been extremely disappointed with a lot of the talk on some forums about high mod thin walled blanks falling out of favor with some manufacturers and the manufacturers changing them so they're thicker walled blanks but thinner in diameter. Thats totally unacceptable to me , i have never broken a thin walled high mod blank and strongly favor them over others .

I wish people were more educated on how to treat , store and fish these fabulous rods and my comment has ZERO relation to the above comments as that sounds like a manufacturing issue for sure.

Herb,
I read and understand your mention of the issue with some of these rods.

But, simply put, some of these rods have been breaking - even with the correct use and actions performed by the users of the rods.

Hence, I am glad to see that Batson is taking action on their particular model to relocate the manufacturing of their particular problem blank to insure that the quality of the blank is built into it correctly.

As the saying goes - if there is smoke, there is likely fire.

Or in the case of some particular blanks of a specific rod breaking from time to time - I expect that there is an issue with the product.

Good luck

Guys, I contacted Batson's customer service. They will be replacing the blank. Roger, Rick, Herb....thanks for the history and your feedback on Batson and the Eternity blank. And a big shout out to Batson Enterprises for standing behind their products in this situation.
