slow pitch jigging rod build

Haven't done it (slow pitch jigging) before but I've purchased a black hole S-662H2MF with intentions of slow pitch jigging using a spinning reel. I haven't ventured out to fish with conventional so it'll be a spinning outfit this time around. I've noticed the majority of slow pitch rods are built using a split grip. Had me wondering, is there any functional advantage to doing this or strictly looks and personal preference. Was thinking maybe just some xflock wrap to the reel seat instead or maybe small diameter EVA. Just want to get some thoughts from you guys with building experience.
Thanks, Mark B

Never slow pitch jig but it sure looks like a fun way to fish.

Usually i use split grips on slow pitch rods just because of the weight.
The slow pitch rod its supposed to be a light rod that will make most of the fisherman work to animate the bait so split grip its more adequate to that function and if you observe the way you work with the rod theres no need to make a full grip.
But as always in custom rodbuilding its not a rule.

From observing videos the handle length is long for the rod length so added weight has to be the main reason that Nuno pointed out. Another thought is the blank flexes through the graphite reel seat and down quite into the butt so probably want little as possible hendering the flex.
