Does anyone have a way to remove this hood without destroying the seat? The older seats had hoods that were no problem to pop loose..Thanks

it is probably assembled with cyanoacrylate type of adhesive and some of them will give with some heat did you give that a try not to hot that it melts the graphite and resin just releases the bond of the 2 parts.

hi Matt..i soaked it in boiing water and wedged a knife bblade between the hood and the plastic lip that abuts it..all i did was bend the plastic lip;;lol..i,m going to try the dremel and remove some of the lip to get to the ring or even to the little nub that rides in the grove and see if i can drill out the nub..if i can do that i will be able to rotate the hood 180* which is what i want to do anyway. ...i want to convert the seat to use it for baitcasters or spinners simply by turning the hoods.. i,ve don this in the past with the older DPS seats but this is my first attempt with these newer ones.

You can always purchase the skeleton and have a fixed hood. Here is a link to the skeleton - [www.mudhole.com]

Hi Bob..i have a set of those but i would still have to free up the hood so that it rotates on the seat body to reposition it for a casting reel or a spin reel..Bob do you know if Fuji is gluing these hoods in place? thanks.

Ben,
What difference does it make on the reel seat? No matter the configuration you choose the reel seat will be aligned with the guides on all rods. Put a spinning reel on conventional rod, the guides still line up, and vice versa. Even if you rotate the fixed hood the sliding hood is fixed so your reels won't clamp on.
Use your skeleton seat on a tenonned and glued center piece, don't glue the skeleton, placed between grips it will be locked in and rotate anyway you want.

Hi Spencer..this will be a 6 piece telescopic rod that is 6' long and 18" collapsed to fit in a 21" side pouch on my kickboat..i already have two collapssable fly rods and want a spin and a cast rod added..if i can use one rod for spin and cast, it will save space and weight..i have built this type rod before but it wasn,t telescopic and was very easy to make with the older DPS seats..i regrooved the seat on the other side of the threads so that i could turn the sliding hood over, no problem there..the sliding hood would stay aligned in the new groove and provide enough stability to keep the reel from moving..and if the casting is positioned opposite side from spinning reel i can have a simple spiral wrap for the casting setup..i need to keep the guides on the bottom of the rod because there is about 12" between guides and there would be a lot of torque on the guides with them on top and only guides positioned at the joints so the rod will be more stable with the guides on the bottom for both spin and casting..thanks for your tip..i will have to look closer at the skeleton seat..

Spencer is correct, after more thought..i don,t have to modify the seat because with a telescopic rod i can modify the guide position to fit whichever reel i use..DUH! i only have to modify the seat if the guides are fixed like with the first rod i made this way yeas ago.. i forgot i was doing a telescopic rod this time..in fact i have a telescopic spin rod i made some time ago that i can use this way.. i just have to change the butt guide to a more casting rod friendly set up, then i can use it both ways, spin or cast or even fly for that matter..lol.
