Hi all!
Has anyone tried coating a rod with urethane casting resin? It seems really strong and flexible and has great clarity. Secondly has anyone tried vacuum degassing rod finish to get all the air out from mixing? Re: Urethane casting resin? Degassing with vacuum?

To answer your first question,I have no idea. In some ways it is similar to epoxy finishes. I would think adherence to threads, ability to soak into the thread, and flexibility,to be the big issues. As for flexibility goes,if used in thin coats,it might possibly work.
Yes,it has been done. That was ages ago, however. A bigger pain in the neck than actually minimizing the introduction of bubbles to finish in the first place. If it actually was a viable option,I believe it would be a commonly used product in rodbuilding. I am not knowledgeable enough to be any kind of authority on the subject though. I pressure cast handles in a pressure pot. No bubbles at all. Coat the rod in Lumiseal or Permagloss. It is urethane based and super strong., I coat all my wood grips with this. Re: Urethane casting resin? Degassing with vacuum?

Heat the epoxy a little and you won't have bubbles. They mostly dissipate anyway even without an alcohol burner. Epoxy will last longer than urethane and if mixed properly will not yellow as much. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
