DVD - Advanced Weaving Techniques with Doc Ski from Mudhole list of software

Can I get the basics of weaving from the above DVD? I think I would like to start doing a minor amount of weaving; primarily on rods I build mostly for family & friends.
I am beginning to have some difficulty with my hands & would need to be able to walk away from the project. & take several days to finish it.
I have trouble with thread tension and adapting to different rod diameters from one end to the other whenever I wrap patterns based on diamonds. The only thing I can do and be proud of (sometimes) are the US flag and fish running lengthwise on the rod.

Rex, Weaving isn't difficult but does require that you understand what you are doing, as do all artistic endeavors. Learning the basics and putting in the time to get comfortable with them will make weaving easier and more enjoyable. You shouldn't have any trouble being able to stop and walk away from a weave in progress as long as you are able to remember where you are in the pattern or left list. The most important part of weaving is having a good pattern, that is the correct size for the diameter of the rod you want to put it on. My suggestion would be to learn the basics before trying advanced techniques. Advanced techniques assume a basic knowledge that you may not have and may cause unnecessary frustration.

Hello Rex.

I don't know where you would find a review of Jim's Book, but I can give you a list of articles he penned for RodMaker Maagazine.

1. Volume-5, Issue-3, Page-24: "The Wonder Weaver".
2. V-5, I-4, Pg.-10: "A Guide To Thread Weaving".
3. V-6, I-5, Pg.-10: "color Change Weaving".
4. V-9, I-3, Pg.-14: "A Simple Weaving Jig for the Rod Builder".
5. V-7, I-4, Pg.-17: "Thread Art Glossary of Words and Terms".
6. V-17, I-6, Pg.-26: "Thread Art Glossary of Words and Terms".
Yes #5 & #6 are the same, #5 is in Black Print & Gray Background and #6 is in Black Print with Yellow Background.

I have a copy of his book and still use it almost every time I do a weave to make sure I'm not messing up something.

Hope this helps.

Tight Wraps & Tighter Lines.

Bob,

New Bern, NC.
