You could also bore it out since the rod itself is of no further use. Cut the rod off at the front of the seat and either chuck it in your lathe and center bore or lock the seat in a vise (cushioned for protection) and use a hand drill to do the same.

Cut the rod off, just in front of the reel seat.

Put heat on the reel seat until it gets the glue soft enough to remove the seat. When hot enough, the seat will slide right off.

Good luck

If the glue is epoxy, you're going to have to get it pretty hot. It doesn't simply soften like hot melt. It has to be basically destroyed by the heat. Unless it is an expensive Alps or similar, I'd forget it. You're doing all that work for a seat that can replaced for less than $10.

It is an ALPS...I got it REALLY HOT and it FINALLY let loose !! Thanks guys for the help ! I did have to do a little boring afterwards to get all the epoxy.

Next time try sticking it in boiling water for a few minutes. It’ll come right off

Dane,
With some glues, you need to get the temp up to 400 degrees or so to soften them which is well above the 212 degrees boiling point of water.

Good luck
