Hi to everyone out there, I just joined this forum. In all my internet searches trying to research a particular tecnique or tool for builing rods I always seem to end up here. I am impressed with all the knowledge & skill that so many of you possess and moreover your willingness to share this knowledge & skill with others. At the moment I wanted to put out a question to you all. I wanted to build a good surf rod in the 10.5 to 12 ft range, for either large spinning reel, something about the size of a Penn Torque 5500, or a VS250 or a conventional multiplier like an Abu Garcia pro rocket 6500. My question to you guys is do you have in mind a favorite manufacturer and blank, and what qualities makes it shine above others?? Any thoughts and suggestions are appreciated my biggest concerns are fishabilty, cosmetics while important are really secondary and also are pretty much up to the builder. Although for this application I will most likely beef up the reel seat with something like milled aluminum. Thanks for your time in reading this, I look forward to your thoughts. Hi, Mike, and welcome.
Unfortunately, I'm the better part of 12 hours from any coast line, so surf rods are not in my experience base. Good luck. Re: New to Forum just saying hello and need a suggestion

How much weight are you wanting the rod to handle. What appreciation is the rod used for. I just built a CCP 13' 3 to 6 nice light tip 3 to 5 oz is where I want the rod to be fits that very well. Lots of good rods out there only price that keeps me in check. ( Also My Wife ). Have a rod geek I'm building next it's a nice rod as well. you Re: New to Forum just saying hello and need a suggestion

Thanks for the replies I suppose I would Ideally like to toss between 3-8oz depending on conditions, applications would be plugging in the Cape Cod canal, or striper fishing in NE coast, and going after whatevers running around OBX , NC. I did look at the rod geek blanks they look nice I like the color options also. Re: New to Forum just saying hello and need a suggestion

Check out Century rod there's some videos of Ryan White telling you how they're built. Also. Love the cts blanks, as I said blanks out there for your price range. These guys know there rods and they will act and do as they tell you. So good luck. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/06/2017 09:06AM by Chris E Linville.
