Question for the Steelheaders

Hi guys.

I'm a float fisherman up here in Ontario, Canada. Fishing Georgian bay rivers mostly. I also am a rod builder but wouldn't say I am a professional. More of a hobbyist who is starting to get his name out there. I have a good buddy who I'm going to build a 13' float rod for and he has asked me which blank i recommend. He wants the best...
I read a lot on the internet about rod building and my type of fishing and feel like I have gained enough knowledge to give him an educated recommendation on which blank to go with... So after much debating i finally decided to recommend the CTS Affinity.
So he's gone ahead and purchased the blank. He then starts posting his purchase on facebook and for some reason he's been getting a bunch of backlash for his (my) choice. So I guess I just wanted to ask the question to my fellow rod builder/steelheaders.. Did I make the wrong choice? Or is he just getting the backlash from facebook warriors because they don't have anything better to do?

Please let me know your thoughts and maybe let me and anyone else reading this post what your preferred steelheading blank is.

Thanks guys
Scott Gilchrist

Interesting. Sounds like facebook b.s. to me as the Affinity blanks are top shelf. I am curious, what does everyone seem to think you should have purchased?

Lots of opinions on social media from people who know nothing, and don't mind showing the world the fact. CTS makes outstanding blanks. If you were looking for a light line, small hook, great lakes steelhead rod, you made a good choice. Lots of custom CTS float rods out there.

Your buddy should take the job to one of his FB confidants. He came to you for your expertise. If he doesn't have faith in you, why bother? Send him on down the road.

there are a lot dolts out there on S & M media sites that don't know Trout from salmon and want to just try to impress someone with their lack of knowledge, sorry I just can't refer to so called media as being social as I typed it it is S&M as there so many SAD and MENTALLY challenged posters on those sites
With that said the CTS blank as stated by others here is a top shelf component yes there are comparable blanks but the CTS is a very good choice as there very few that are available with that length as over the years they have been getting shorter most are coming in at 10'6" or less.
when your finished with the build your friend will be very happy that blank was chosen !

The best day to be alive is always tomorrow !!
Think out side the box when all else fails !!!

LOL, thanks for the replies guys, much appreciated.
These are the reasons I don't have facebook and other main stream social media outlets. Way too many "know it alls" that end up confusing a topic rather than getting the right information. And to be honest, this is why I come to this site instead. Lots guys with different levels of ability and knowledge, and everyone is here to help the next guy succeed.
Thanks to everyone, I am definitely confident in my choice.
