Ive done 3 rods with carbon fiber grips and every time i dry fit the handle i scratch the blank is there a way to keep from doin this

Blow the bore out each time before you slide the grip onto the rod blank. Go easy.

If you are using the reamer with grit glued to the tube they are prone to loosing bits of grit and lodging them in the foam core. Not much you can do about other than blow it out as best you can or try a different type of reamer. The dream reamer works good but you can also use a round file.

As above if you are using a reamer with grit glued to a piece of blank, it is most likely the problem. These type of reamers are prone to losing grit inside the reamed grip, and it can get embedded in the foam and then scratch to blank. I speak from experience and have discarded the glued grit reamers. Those with sand paper on the shafts are much better. The foam itself will not scratch a blank.

A long, narrow bottle brush may be what you need.

Try a gun cleaning kit, you can have different lengths of rod and there is a choice of tips for brushes (nylon or brass) with different diameters or cloth patches. The final step is to blow it out with a air nozzle.

After scratching my first couple of blanks, I simply use scotch tape the length of the blank to generally where the winding check would be placed. No more scratches while dry fitting the grips.
