Folding Hook Keeper Broke

I have a rod were the folding part of the hook keeper came off. I could not find the part. Does anyone know of an easy way to fix this without cutting off the threads and possibly the winding check?

If the part still on the blank has a hole or passage through it, a small split ring could work.

If a split ring is too big for the hole, a small duo lok snap might work. You have had the same experience with the folding keeper that I have, so I don't build with them any more. I think the finest keeper is the REC titanium alloy. Functional, tough, no corrosion, unobtrusive.

Dan,
I would just cut off the old hook keeper, and wrap on a new one and coat it.

Good luck

Perhaps a matching hookkeeper could be acquired, and the folding part removed from it. Then you would have the necessary piece to replace what is missing. Then there is no need for rewrapping anything.

Chuck's solution will get you back where you started, with a serviceable but ergonomically challenged keeper of questionable durability. It's a good solution, if you want to keep that keeper design.
the way that keeper is designed, a loop is formed so that the open end goes into the "hole", and the loop is pinched shut, closing the open end inside the hole. It opens with use and can slip out of the hole, lost keeper loop. If you can get something like a snap or split ring, as suggested before, through the hole you have a keeper better than new. At least it will be more durable.
