Mudhole new dryer

I jjust received the latest sale information from Mudhole and I see that they are selling a new rod dryer that uses a low voltage 24 volt dc gear motor that has a top speed of 45 rpm and a variable speed dc motor controller.

This concept makes for an excellent dryer. I have been using DC motors and speed controller for several years for both wrapping motors as well as dryers and won't go back to ac.

Simple, compact, excellent speed control and relatively inexpensive.

You might check them out.

Good luck

I read pretty much everything you comment on because you seem to be the person who really knows about motors and speed control etc...

I like to build my own stuff and am always looking for places to buy these kinds of things , love the images of everything you have done in your own shop .

Thanks Roger,

These new variable speed dryers are awesome! CRB PRoducts are the new standard for rod building tools and the designers at CRB really outdid themselves here. The best part is the price - less then other fixed speed dryers.

Check them out on our web page below:

Looks like it would be a great set up for also applying finish with the ability to crank it faster to apply finish and then slow it down for drying.

X4 on the knowledge and insights that Roger generously shares.

By extension, exactly the same reason why a similar style motor with a higher rpm, also excels for use as a power wrapper.

Also, the direction of a DC motor can be reversed by simply reversing the applied motor voltage. Hence, any of these DC motors can be reversed easily with the flip of a switch, that flips the polarity of the applied motor voltage.

Good luck

I am still fairly new to this. I was wondering what the benefits of having a variable speed dryer were. I was thinking of getting another dryer and was trying to decide if I should get one of these. Thanks Justin
