Epoxy for a diamond wrap

I finished a diamond wrap and want to know how you epoxy the wrap. Do you just epoxy the thread part, or do you epoxy the space between also (meaning the blank)? I was thinking it would be easier to just spread out epoxy over the whole area, instead of just the thread and let it self-level. I don't have an under wrap, just the diamond pattern created using "A" thread. I appreciate any feedback on this. Thanks! Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/29/2017 09:34PM by Matt Caplis. if you don't want to epoxy the entire wrap including the blank then I would use either of the 3 following finishes Luma seal or Perma gloss these 2 are chemical based and are quite aromatic and require good ventilation # 3 is Rod Dancer Thread master it is water based and clean up with water they are all urethane type finishes and will require a few coats to build up to a high smooth gloss The best day to be alive is always tomorrow !! if you have some way to thin the epoxy some or warn it up a little , so it flows real easy , it should soak in to the thread a lot better , an hope less air bubbles , lots ways to thin it ,
some use DNA , [ I do ] there is one more substance to thin but getting old an don't use it , look in to bubbles epoxy for wraps , it should help. William Sidney AK Re: Epoxy for a diamond wrap

Yes Grant, it's a diamond butt wrap. Bill, I'm using ProKote, which is pretty thin already, do you still think I need to thin it more? Re: Epoxy for a diamond wrap

I don't know , make a test wrap an see if it soaks in for you , as you can see there is a lot of ways to do what you want , different strokes for different people ,
what works for you might not work for me , the bottom line, it has to soak in to get the air out an sealed , an you don't want a heavy first coat [ real thin] , I have never use PRO KOTE on my wraps , good luck , do let us know what you do, an the pit falls if any, that comes up William Sidney AK Re: Epoxy for a diamond wrap

Two coats, don't thin, leave it alone. You MAY want to go 3 coats and then sand if the ridges from the diamonds are pronounced enough to feel bumpy. Your wrap can come out as smooth as....as.....a babi.......glass if you let it. Re: Epoxy for a diamond wrap

I do two coats of Threadmaster regular build and let it flow out. Bubbles come out by simply blowing with a straw.
I also use Color Preserver on everything so the threads get sealed which prevents micro bubbles, but I understand those who prefer not to use it. Personal preference. John Shear Chippewa Falls, WI Re: Epoxy for a diamond wrap
