Dragon scale wrap

Would a Dragon scale wrap using metallic D size thread for diamonds and using non cp A size thread for the overwrap still show the scales detail? Or does the top layer need to be cp thread to see the scales?

Thanks Rick

It probably would since it is texture rather than bleed that creates the effect, There is an article by the originator of the technique in the online library here under "texturing grips and wraps" that might have some more information.

With D under and A over you will see the pattern regardless of thread type. I'm not sure if the metallic under would show up as metallic if you put regular nylon over, but it would definitly not show as metallic if you used ncp over. Great oppurtunity do a couple of test wraps. A over D is a pronounced pattern, A over C is a better look to my eye..

I utilized the fiber tape method where you use the tape used for wall patches. I then wrapped metallic over it. Easy way out, but looks pretty good.

I did one today on a casting rod I am building It ha a larger but section, the section I wrapped is 15mm to 13mm and 7" long for the dragon scales. I did a 1/4" trim with metallic.

The rod is dk dk blue. For the scales I used D size silver metallic. For the overwrap I used A size Cobolt. I am hoping when I put the LS Supreme on the Silver metallic will barely show through the Cobolt. On the two ends for the 1/4" trim I used an A size metallic in Royal blue.

Thanks for the tips. Going to put LS tomorrow and if wanted I can post a pic.

Got the epoxy on and with ncp thread when it disappears the scale effect is almost gone. I am going to let it dry and then remove it and do again and use CP. Before I applied the LS it really looked awesome.

All dragon scale wraps should have an over wrap if metallic to get the scale effect. If you use any nylon it won’t come out like it should. Sz D cross wraps underneath and Sz A over wraps are how they should be wrapped.
