I received my grab bag rods last week from Mudhole and was curious about them. They seem like they could be gator blanks based on the rough overlapping edges I see on the blank. It seems like the rods weren't sanded down. One of the blanks has a bend in it, which i am not surprised about because Mudhole said some might need some help. So I sanded down the bottom part to see what the result was. It is smooth now but I am not sure if its good or not.
Has anyone else come across this? Maybe the Mudhole guy here could shed a little light possibly? Re: Mudhole grab bag rods - unfinished?

Ken,
When you sand the blank down it will provide you with a "natural" finish. They are fine to use like that, many of the grab bag blanks still had the cellophane wrap intact. You can actually pull this wrap off of the blank without sanding in many instances. If you do decide to sand the blanks, again they will be fine to use with out any additional finish. However if you would like to coat them, we recommend using something like U40 Permagloss [www.mudhole.com] or one of the Seymo finishes [www.mudhole.com] or [www.mudhole.com]. Regards. I have never tried the Seymo finishes. Are they as hard and as durable as Permagloss?
