I just got a rod almost finished. It is a spinning rod and I put 2 decals on between thread wraps with trim. At first I was going to have one on top one on bottom. Then decided to have one on each side. Not paying attention when I moved the decals to the sides when holding rod with reel down the one decal is upside down.

Hope this makes sense. Anyway my question is if I remove the epoxy between the wraps where the decals are, with a razor blade to make a straight cut to the blank then peel the epoxy away and replace the decals, when I redo the epoxy in this area will it blend in with the epoxy left over the wraps and hide the cut?

Kind of like a 5" long epoxy area and removing 2" from the middle and then putting epoxy back in the middle.

You are not going to be able to "peel epoxy away!" It will adhere to the blank.

I'd try it. I've had good luck doing just what you suggest on more than a fair number of occasions. Most times the epoxy will peel away, or can at least be shaved off in long slivers with a single edge razor blade. Don't slice into the blank, however.

So after I get it cut away the new epoxy will blend in with the remaining epoxy and not show a seam?

Yes.

Just overcoat the standing epoxy on the outer trim wraps. It'll all blend fine that way.

Thanks, I have decided to sand it down with a sanding block. I will cut a 2.5" piece of wood and make a block to sand it down then do a couple layers to buil it back up then lastly do a final thin coat ove it all. Thanks again for the advice.

I ended up cutting in the 2 edges with a fine flat file and then sanded down to the decals which were put directly on the blank. It came out pretty nice. I peeled off the decalsI then carefully sanded with 360g and wrapped the area with blue metallic thread. I put on the first coat of ls supreme with blue holo flakes.As always with the flakes it is a little bumpy. Today I will do a second thin coat with just ls supreme to make a super smooth surface to apply decals to and then ls supreme until I reach the other level then one final thin layer over the whole thing to erase any seams.

I got the decals replaced and finished with the LS Supreme and cannot see where the cut was made. Thanks for the all advice and confidence. Decals were from "The Decal Connection". They were awesome too!
