Wine glass stem wrap

I saw the wine glasses done on here on the photo section and want to make one to match a rod I am building for some one. I got the power wrapper tail stock and with the chuck and tail stock I have the glass held perfectly.

I have tried a couple wraps with A thread with a metallic trim. The glass is so smooth and with the taper of the stem it is extremely difficult to go from large stem to smaller and keep everything in place. Once past center it will be easy as the taper gets larger.

Any tips on how to wrap a taper from large to small? I was thinking of putting a thin layer of LS Supreme on the stem first. Thinking it would hold the thread from slipping down better than bare glass. If I were to do this how long would I have to do the wrap before the epoxy is as hard as glass? I am in Phoenix Az and house temps are around 78-80° with low humidity 15-30%. Would 24hrs be too long to wait and have the LS too hard? I would like to be able to epoxy one afternoon and wrap the next if possible. I could do on a day off and test the LS in the cup and do it after it stops showing finger prints.

Any thoughts?

Thank Rick

I tool a look at the glasses in the photo section before responding, cool stuff! If you are planning on doing a cross wrap, try laying a base of thread first then wrapping over that. If you are having trouble with slippage just doing a normal wrap, try holding you packing tool right against the thread immediately after it lays down on the glass. With just a little pressure, you ought to be able to hold the thread in place until you get to the taper that will push it back against your wrap for you.
Good luck!

Start in the center and wrap to one end. Do the other side from the center as well. 2 wraps.

I am planning on just a straight wrap with a trim ring. I thought of doing it from center out doing two wraps. I may try it and see how it looks with the tag ends underneath. I want to use nylon with no cp so it will be kind of see through.

Another thing that is tricky is you can see through the glass stem so you see the back and front at the same time and it is confusing to look at. I was sitting slightly off center of the wrap which probably doesn't help.

yes a thin coat will give you the traction to hold the thread just make sure you place the thread close so you don't have to burnish the @#$%& out of it and the light it is cured and not tacky do the center wrap first and the trim bands last then coat it with finish and let it turn and re coat if necessary.

Rick,
Can you post a pic of how you have the glass mounted on the wrapper?
Thanks
Bruno

Here is a pic of this glass. It is a smaller glass so it fits the standard chuck with the jaws on the inside. The tailstock fits in the bottom nicely and I can use the foot control to turn for the wrap. I am making a holder for the bigger glasses that will fit in the chuck just as a rod does. When I get it done I will post a pic of it also.
