Finishing tiger wrap

I just (almost) finished my first tiger wrap and it looks awesome! I'm putting off finishing the tiger wrap until I get the low down from the pros. I'm very paranoid of disturbing the outer wrap when applying finish, any suggestions?

The top wrap should be slightly embedded into the layer of finish on the lower wrap so it's not likely to be disturbed.

Dane, heat your top wrap very thoroughly with a hair dryer, then let it sit until cool. This should allow the top wrap threads to set into the top finish on the bottom layer and help keep them in place. Then put finish on top with as little actual brushing involved as possible. The first coat needn't be perfect it will benefit from a second anyway.
