balsa wood handle

Not me.

I have never considered using balsa for a handle, so having no experience with balsa I can not offer any advise but I can offer an opinion.
Balsa seems too soft for my needs. Does not seem durable and can be prone to dents.
I would be interested to hear comments if anyone has experience with balsa.

Might work as a core for a carbon fiber grip. I think it would be to soft to use without covering it.

Over the years, I was heavily involved in model building, using primarily balsa wood.

Balsa wood comes in many grades of density and hardness.

The average run of the mill balsa would be too soft for a grip. However, if you were to use one of the most dense balsa woods, you would be just fine to use as a grip.

I use balsa wood grips on fly rods and ultralight rods. I have also used balsa wood on ice rods. I have yet to see and drastic issues that you wouldn't see on other types of grips. Balsa wood makes a great grip material IMO.
