I would not use 6 year old CP and jeopardize a project that I have many hours in. It's not worth it. If you're after a knowledgeable answer I think you need to detail what product you are asking about.

I have been using the same bottle of color preserver made by American Tackle for at least 15 years now, I bought a jumbo bottle of it at the time on sale, I believe from Merrick Tackle, It's the water base type. Still works great to this day. I suggest you give it a shot on a sample wrap.

give it a good mixing and try it as you said if it is water based it still should work just fine as Jay stated
