I had one bottle of old Gudebrod 811 color preserver left to get me through another decade of feather and snakeskin inlays! Sadly discovered it was not the old Gudebrod!!!!! I have tried several other cp brands and had little success. I am allergic to Permaglos. What else are you folks using for setting feathers down for inlays? Thanks

Finished just last week a rod with jungle cock nail feather inlays on the ferrule wraps. Used ChromoSeal CP. Applied one coat of the CP and let dry for an hour. Then a puddle of CP into which the feather was positioned. Smoothed feather and removed excess CP. Then 2 coasts of the CP to well seal the feather and dried overnight. Finished with a coat of ProKote.

The feathers were on NCP nylon so I did not care about color preserving the thread - just need the CP to hold the feather in place and seal from the epoxy. The ChromoSeal did that.

I use Flex Coat CP, works great. Don't forget it does need mixing.

What kind of mixing? Thx

Flex coat needs to be stirred to mix before using.

Mr. Snedden at Canada Rodbuildersupply to the left showed me how to use urethane varnish to set the feathers in. The biggest positive for me is that as the varnish dries you can reset any of the stiffer feathers back unto the blank, the thicker it gets as it dries the better it holds the bent feather, I just press it back into the varnish with my finish spatula's pointed end.
