Marble over existing guide wraps

I'm fairly new to wrapping rods and am currently only decorating my own with pretty good success. My question is can I marble over an existing guide wrap on a rod and whether it would be better to add color to the base epoxy or leave it clear. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

If you want to see the wrap use clear and add your marble to it, if not, heavily dye you base coat than add your marbling colors to the base. You may need more than one batch of base, so if you dye it keep track of how much so you used so you can match.
