Hi Gents..I salvaged these along with 3 uni butts from some garage sale rods this past weekend. Any ideas on how best to clean them up without abrasives? Anything I can just soak them in?

you could use citrus strip from the home improvement store and soak them and then use a old tooth brush to scrub the excess off rinse them with clear water let them dry and you should be good to go

As you didn't define clean them up,I will give you the overall picture from my perspective.
First,I remove the rollers,cleaning any epoxy that may have gotten on there during the original finishing process. Then I clean any epoxy off the guide frames. I use an exacto knife with a #11 blade. At this point,I will remove the rollers sleeve. If the first few prove difficult to remove,I typically trash them and order new ones. Do what you wish to in that regard. I then soak both frames and rollers for a short time in vinegar.
My final step is to polish the cleaned up roller frames with an untreated polishing wheel in a dremel type tool.
Once the guides are wrapped and finished,I will add the rollers to the guides.

I have had good results using Corrosion X. Will remove corrosion and lubricate. Good stuff for anything used in the marine environment.

Id go the corrosionX rout. Use a toothbrush for stubborn spots. Replace the bushuings if the roller is frozen or difficult to remove.

Take them over to your favorite jeweler.

Ask them to drop the guides into their ultra sound cleaner for a day or so. I expect that they will come out sparkling and if you know the jeweler, will not charge you an arm and a leg.

Joe, from what I see these look to be chrome plated brass. IMHO once the chrome has worn through all hope is lost. I hope I am wrong.

Russell......that was why I didn't want to use abrasives on them but they are definitely Aftco ......did they make chrome plated rollers?

Russ,you are correct. Those are chrome plated brass.

Joe, yes they did. At least if you are referring to the frames. I can't attest to the makeup of the rollers themselves.

Guys.....just a follow up. Corrosion X is awesome!

One or two guides were worn down to the brass but the rest look new.
