Have a star rod and need to match finish. The finishedepoxy is dull olive green and crinkled. What do I do. Re: Thread finish

Thomas,
Strip the rod. Tie the guides back on and then just put finish over the thread. If you want something other than the dull graphite or glass, just put some wax on the blank. Take care Re: Thread finish

I am actually rebuilding a Star rod from 1968, and just saw a friends star that he uses for offshore fishing. I like the rods, they hold up well. His has some kind of coating that turned milky white looking when we rinsed them off after fishing. Made me wonder what they used. Not epoxy.
As Roger suggests, I would just strip all the guides off and start fresh. But pictures speak volumes, so maybe post some pics, and then everyone can get a better idea of what you may need done. Re: Thread finish

That 1968 Star was finished with rod varnish, not urethane or epoxy. I concur with Roger, if you want something other than the dull graphite or glass, just put some wax on the blank. I'm not OLD........I'm CHRONOLOGICALLY GIFTED Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
