Desert tan thread

I'm in need of a thread color that matches the tan on a digital camo reel seat. I've checked with Mudhole and found nothing. Looking for suggestions.

Have something written down about that reel seat, but have not seen it myself, a person I met said he used grey with tan trim, the color tan he picked was Sulky 1149 Ecru, said it matched well after darkening just a bit after applying CP. Was on a honey SMB 841 Lamiglas blank so it might darken more on graphite.
The good thing is just about any sewing shop will have Sulky available, it's a very popular embroidery thread.

Victor,
I just completed sewing a bunch of couch cushions using Desert Tan thread. I had to search for it quite extensively, but you can order nylon Desert Tan industrial thread and it works very well for guide wrapping.

Here is a source for size 46 desert tan thread that is bonded. Since it is bonded, it will be similar to NCP thread and will retain its color with no CP.

Spencer, which Sulky thread is the one you recommend? Nylon? Polyester? thanks

Michael,
Most of the typical rod building threads are nylon. One advantage of the nylon is that there is some stretch in the line. As a result, as you wrap the guides under tension, the thread is stretching a bit which - at the end - makes for a tighter and better wrap.

Polyester thread on the other hand, have very little stretch. But one advantage of the polyester thread is that it is virtually impervious to US or solar rays. Nylon is not nearly so resistant to the sun as polyester thread.

Be safe

Roger, thanks. I know that, but am interested in the specific thread series for the Sulky. Last time I tried a "sewing" thread I got the wrong series, even though the right brand, and and it wasn't color-true even with CP.

Not sure if this would work for you but I just wrapped a rod for a client that wanted the guides to look just like the standard Green and TAN Winn grips. I used Pac Bay T100A-TN in stay true , to me this looks very much like desert camo and can be purchased from Mud hole, you just need to look up PB in the thread section.

Hope this helps

Tom
