As you'll soon understand, I know very little about rod construction! However, I have a Sage RPLXi for saltwater fly fishing that has a broken tip, the loop corroded and separated from the tip top mounting sleeve. I easily unglued and removed the remaining tip top sleeve and the replacement procedure seems very straightforward. Except, there is about 1/8" of graphite tip left in the sleeve. Sage also did an very nice job of wrapping the tip at the base of the tip top sleeve which leaves me with 3/8" of "available" graphite rod tip to work with. So these are the repair choices as I see them (other than sending the rod back to Sage):
*Cut back the 1/2" (standard length?) tip top replacement to 3/8" (i.e., the length of the remaining graphite tip) and glue it in place. *Leave the new tip top sleeve at 1/2" and glue it in place, essentially leaving only glue in the 1/8" sleeve void. *Cut back the wrapping 1/8" which will allow for the full 1/2" sleeve to fit onto the graphite tip. I have no idea how difficult this might be in order to not damage the graphite underneath the wrap. I need to order a replacement tip top. I measured the ID of the sleeve with drill stock at 1/16" which is a #4 size, I believe. Don't have the original loop but another similar rod has a loop that measures about 1/4", ID. Any specific replacement recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks, Marty Re: Sage Tip Top Replacement

If the tip is in fact 1/16" that is a 4 size as they are measured in 1/64ths. A standard size loop, size #4 fly rod tip top is what you want and are available from any component supplier on the left. Re: Sage Tip Top Replacement

If authenticity is important to you Sage used Hopkins and Holloway guides on that rod, Angler's Workshop to the left has them. Re: Sage Tip Top Replacement
