Hi All,
I am trying to apply the NGC layout principles to the reduction train on an 11ft light spinning surf rod I am building for a relative. From what I understand, the length of the rod should have absolutely no bearing on the placement of the reduction train. However, I can't get away from the fact that when I lay it out it looks so very different from any other surf rod I've ever seen. Most I have seen seem to have the guides starting almost near the middle of the blank. With a low placement of the 4000 size reel (owner request), the stripper guide is only a bit over 600mm from the butt of the rod. If this was on a 7ft rod I wouldn't think anymore of it but with the extra length it appears I will have quite a few running guides. Can someone please confirm that this is normal or am I missing something regarding long rods? My plan is to place the running guides using a static test and fine tune with test casting.
