I know many fly rodders have used them and some like them and some don't. What are the advantages or disadvantages of furled leaders or is it that some like them and others don't. Re: furled leaders

I use them sparingly and only in certain conditions. They cast quite well, unfurling very predictably and tend to land lightly That is the positives, the negative I experience, is that they tend to pick up a lot of water when doing a pick-up lay-down cast, if not careful this tends to spook trout in thin water. Robert,
Not all furled leaders are created equally! I am fortunate to have a local fly shop that makes their own, and the quality is fantastic. I won't fly fish without one, now. Of course, I don't do much fly fishing, but when I do go, I usually fish for super spooky, over harassed fish, and I believe the furled leaders help with presentation greatly. If you decide to try them, get a couple different brands, so that you can compare. Some are certainly better than others. Take care, Chris Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
