Roller guide to repair standard rod...

Hey folks, I have a PENN "Slammer" 20-50 rate 6'6" rod that the original stripper guide has been destroyed. I'd like to replace it with a roller stripper guide but since I have been suffering lately with Rip Van Winkle syndrome (haven't touched my rebuilding equipment in over 20 years) I'm having trouble with deciding on a brand and model to use. So far to my best research I think the AFTCO heavy duty #51 stripper guide would suit my needs. I'm using a PENN 113W reel loaded with Sufix 832 80# braid and primarily use the rod for shark fishing from our local pier. Thoughts?

Sounds like you have the proper guide in mind, one small suggestion from many years of service and repair on saltwater rods with roller guides. You may wish to remove the rollers from the guide frame when epoxying the guide to prevent epoxy from running down the frame and epoxying the rollers to the frame. It might amaze you to see how many factory rods get sold with the roller locked up and go unnoticed for years.

Thanks for the advice, and yes I have seen a couple of factory rods that way
