Hey y'all,
I have a guy asking me to fix a snapped rod. Story is his buddy stepped on it and broke it between the first and 2nd guide. Seems like the thing to do is put a ferrule on it and make it a two piece. But I've never attached any ferrules or anything to a rod, so I'm not sure what the best way to attach one is. What do y'all use and what orientation would be best to put it on? Thanks - Tyler Bulin Re: Snapped Blank Repair

Do it right, it works. Most likely issue is not being able to get epoxy into the right spots, or having it stripped and getting a poorly glued sleeve. But done right, you won't know that it has been repaired. Re: Snapped Blank Repair

Tyler,
One thing to be very sure to check and that is the extent of the damage on the blank. When a blank gets stepped on, The damage will likely be as wide as the persons shoe. Then, in addition to that - the blank gets smashed flat, the cracks may extend several inches well past the break itself. Be safe Re: Snapped Blank Repair

Tyler,
I have followed Tom's instructions on the repairing of three broken rods over the last four of years and the rods are still working fine. My biggest problem with the repairs has been finding fiberglass rods from which I could cut a collar to repair brakes in the tip areas on the rods. I sacrificed one of my old fiberglass Saber pistol grip bass rod to repair one, (broke my heart to cut it). Yard sales on a good starting point to find old fiberglass rods.
