Does anyone know if the AERO Comfort Finish Reel Seat is heavier than a genaric reel seat? And what are their actual weights? They're both 16 mm. I'm a weak old man and like the lightest components for my rods. Thank you.

It really doesn't matter what it weighs.

If you prefer the feel of the Comfort Finish reel seat - and thousands of folks do - then by all means use the Aero Comfort Finish reel seat. One of my very favorite reel seats.

A reel seat is placed on a rod, such that the actual weight of the reel seat is semi not very important.

I think I have one on a Diawa inshore rod and I do like it.

The Aero grip is one of my least favorite reel seats. To me that hump just feels uncomfortable and weird in my hand, but that's my opinion. Some people love them and others, like me, dislike them. It's all about what you like, if you like them then do not worry about the weight, The weight of the reel seat is located at a very weight neutral position on the rod, plus or minus a few grams will not be noticed.

Fuji SKSS or Minima Ultra-lite exposed blank are most likely going to be the lightest reel seats. If by generic you mean a seat like a Fuji DPSM type then yes the mass of the AERO seat is greater and will weight slightly more. The nut / hood type can also vary in weight. The type of arbor you use can also make a difference in weight; graphite, polyurethane, composite, fiberglass tape or masking tape. If you do your research you can make it very light but if you use a heavy reel what is the point.

Leveraged weight is a multiple of the weight being moved by a lever, but the weight of a reel seat is at the fulcrum of a cast so leverage is not a factor. You would gain more advantage by taking two fewer turns of thread on each rod wrap than by using a reel seat 20 grams lighter.

Hello Alex.

I have one of the soft ones and it weighs in at 25.1g with the nut/hood, I don't have a regular one but do have a flag painted one and it weighs in at 30.3g with nut/hood, both are size 16.

I weighed the nut/hoods separately the one on the soft ones are 6.2g while the ones on the flag ones are 5.7g, I like the ones on the soft seat better, because the nuts are larger.
