I just had an inquiry regarding a noodle rod. A friend is looking for a 10' noodle rod to be used for salmon. I would assume that any fly rod blank would work well for a noodle rod. Are there any that I should look at, or avoid? Not sure of the price point at this time. Re: noodle rod blank

One of the medium light rods with a moderate action is perfect for your application. [www.rainshadowrodblanks.com] Or the extra light or medium light blank in this series: [www.rainshadowrodblanks.com] Or the extra light or light action blank in this series. Re: noodle rod blank

I've built a few of the Batson RX7 blanks for steelhead in Michigan. Mostly 8wt, but a couple 7wt. I would be comfortable with a 4lb leader on either. If I were going to build one specifically for salmon I would probably use a 10 wt. The only downside to using the flyrod blank for a spinning rod is that I don't think Batson will honor their warranty. Re: noodle rod blank

I am waiting to hear back. Unsure of what his actual intent is at this point. Re: noodle rod blank

Ken--Talk to your customer. True "noodle rods" are 10 1/2 - 13', very slow, very light specialty rods designed primarily to cushion a fish's effect on 1-4 lb. leaders. They were initially designed for steelhead fishermen in the Great Lakes river systems, and required a little "educatin'" to be used effectively. They are a far cry from a fly rod blank (which I agree would be more satisfactory). You need to be on the same page with your customer. Re: noodle rod blank

North Fork Composites still makes a true noodle rod blank rated IGFA 4 lb. test. They make some heavier ones also, all are 11 1/2 ft. long. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
