Looking for a blank for skipping docks for my nephew. Will be using Sunline 14lb fluorocarbon skipping 1/2 oz jigs and Senko's. He likes G-Loomis blanks but said he would fish other name manufactured blank . I build 3 or 4 salt water rods a year so this i need a little help on. I thing i have found a couple that might work but the 1/2 oz jigs might put a crimp in to my choices. 5/8 oz is the top lure range on these blanks. SJ 605-1(SM). Not sure if this blank would work. Opinions on this blank and any recommendation on other blanks appreciated. Thanks.

The MHX 6.0 are great blanks for what you need and thay will make anybody a great caster as thay are very accurate like a hammer is to a nail and are great for getting close like under docks.

For anything more then 3/8 oz go with a Heavy action these thing are great.

Underhand cast with a short, fast load/release and a ton of lure speed to keep it skipping...POINT Blank PB691MXF, up to 5/8oz lure weight and 14lb line. 1.76oz blank weight.

Thanks for all the recommendations. Any one have any thoughts on the North Fork Blank SJ606-1(SM) 1/4-1oz, 10-17lb, F/Hvy as a blank for skipping?

Stay with 6.0 only a 6.6 Rod has to much flap in it and is not nearly as accurate as a 6.0 Rod and a 6.6 or longer takes more of a perfect caster to even come close to 6.0 or shorter Rod. A 6.0 or shorter work more like Cast point and land soft no splash at all what's so ever so just forget 6.6 or longer.

You need a minimum of 500 grams of power to effectively fish half ounce jigs with trailer imo. Especially around cover. NFC has a chart that lists ERN numbers. Point Blank also lists both ERN and RDA numbers. Another nice choice would be something from the Phenix UMBX line.

Do you see this built with a pistol grip? Or straight grip?

I too am interested in this. I have tried skipping with the MHX MB843 and -844. They are ok, but seem to long (I ain't that tall to begin with....) So I am still looking for a skipping blank.... Was leaning toward pistol grip as this rod is limited to bass, and I can figure average "Big" weight of 5lbs, so the leverage isn't as important as would be with other fish.

I found some EVA pistol grips (All my casting rods are eva) but wonder, how are they installed? Do you have to "over-ream" the grip since it's installed from "bottom-up"?

Tommy The MHX 843 is a seven foot long rod and one that is probably too long for what you want to do. As show above the MHX shooter with a pistol grip is likely to be something that you'll like much better. Here is the link check it out.. And yes since you have to install from the rear you may have to ream out a bit. The taper in that area is so little and with EVA I would think it would stretch over the butt.
