Acid wraps

Anybody know how this style of rod building got it's name?? Did it start in the 60s haha?

I believe someone upon seeing one for the first time made the comment " wow, the guy that built that must have been on acid."

It was patented in 1909 by John Scanlan. It has since been referred to under many different names, including "Roberts Wrap" that was popular in the 1970's and 1980's. In the 1990's it become more popularly known as the "Revolver Wrap." Each were slightly different but all achieved the same thing.

My above post is accurate, I can't pin down the year, but it had to have been post 60's. It does indeed refer to the effects of LSD on the builder.

They’re still doing acid in the 2000s? I feel lucky I escaped the urge back in the 70s.
